Coronary artery disease

The coronary arteries are blood vessels that supply blood to the heart. Coronary artery
disease is the process of accumulation of cholesterol plaque within the inner walls of the arteries. This can result in the narrowing or complete blockage of the blood vessels. When the heart is starved of an adequate blood supply, it becomes deficient in its oxygen and nutrient requirements. This can cause chest pain (angina) or in a more severe cases, result in a heart attack (heart muscle damage).
