Coronary physiology assessment

This assessment can be performed as part of an invasive coronary angiogram procedure to ascertain further information about the severity of a plaque narrowing within your heart arteries and its subsequent effect on the blood flow to the heart muscle. We are also able to gain some idea of how the tiny blood vessels that we do not see on the coronary angiogram are functioning. We may need to administer an infusion of a drug called adenosine. This can cause flushing and bring about chest heaviness and/ or breathlessness. The drug only lasts a few seconds in the bloodstream and symptoms tend to disappear soon after the drug is rid of the body.
