Echocardiography is an ultrasound test that is used to assess the function of the heart and its valves. The echocardiogram is performed by a cardiac sonographer who will move a hand-held transducer over the chest. High-frequency sound waves are sent to the heart and transmitted back to the ultrasound machine acquiring live moving images. With the use of both quantitative and qualitative data, the physician is able to make accurate clinical decisions about your cardiovascular health and further management plans.
